Because he'll bloody well laugh in my face if I tell him to do some yoga so he'll stop flinging himself off buildings.

( he's being intentionally hostile about a subject that's sensitive. perhaps john was more like sherlock than he thought. )

Have you considered speaking to him? Counter-intuitive, I know.

I have spoken to him. It doesn't change anything. He knows my opinion on the subject.

How long has it been since you spoke to him? Before or after he died?

I speak to him every bloody time he does something self-destructive.

No one is questioning that.

Treat him like a child. If you try and punish a child a week after the fact, they'll never attribute the punishment to the crime. That was all I was getting at.

Mycroft pretty much always treats Sherlock like a child already. I'm not sure it's helped.

Then you ought to understand that while the Holmes' brothers pretend to be above any sort of familial affection, that's not the case.

You treat your siblings far different than your friends, even when you feel as though you're treating them the same.

Okay, but how's treating him like a child going to stop him from ripping himself to pieces just because he's bored?

You won't be able to stop him from being bored.

You can try and guide his behavior towards things that aren't quite so self-destructive.

Guide him like a bratty kid? No sweets before dinner and a good spanking every time he tries something else reckless?
